Photo reveals Kate Middleton's scar

Hair extensions: that was the first assumption gossips made when a recent photo of Kate Middleton revealed a three-inch long mark just above her hairline.

If it were any other celebrity, they probably would have been right. But the low-maintenance duchess had a bigger secret that had nothing to do with beauty. The mark on her head is a scar from a "very serious operation" according to the Daily Mail. St. James Palace officials confirmed Kate's scar was from an operation she had as a child, but wouldn't go into further detail.

Biting Asian ladybugs Ottawa

Biting Asian ladybugs Ottawa

Biting Asian ladybugs Ottawa, There are reports of swarms of the multicolored Asian ladybug, an insect known to bite, in Ottawa's southern limits and making their way into more urban areas.
Carleton University entomologist Jeff Dawson said in the fall the ladybug looks for places with stable temperatures to survive the winter.
Often, they sneak into cracks and open holes in people's homes. The insects also do not face much threat in their natural habitats.
"Being an introduced species, they tend not to have the same predators," said Dawson," So their numbers tend to explode at certain times of year."
The pretty, yellowish-orange bug has been spotted in the small community of Winchester, Ont., just south of Ottawa, at Carleton University and even at a south Ottawa golf course.

This insect has popped up in Ontario before, though. In 2001, some vintage Ontario wines faced a plague of the insects, which led to the smell of Asian ladybugs polluting the wines — an aroma compared to "rancid peanut butter."
The Asian ladybug was first brought to North America by the U.S. government from Japan in 1988 to serve as an aggressive species for insect control.

Teammates avoid hitting Crosby

Teammates avoid hitting Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby skated with the team on Wednesday, but still doesn't know when he will be able to play in a game.

The star center has been sidelined since Jan. 5 because of post-concussion symptoms.

Crosby hasn't been cleared for contact in practice and will miss at least the first few games of the regular season, which opens on Thursday when the Penguins face the Vancouver Canucks.

"It's a day at a time," Crosby said with a smile, sweat dripping off his face. "I don't think I've ever appreciated just being able to do this every day as much as lately because for a long time I wasn't able to.

"You just get up every day and try and go as hard as you can and hope you feel good. For me the last few weeks have been great. No complaints."

The last time Crosby played a hockey game in Vancouver, he scored the overtime goal in Canada's gold-medal victory against the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He remembered that quite clearly Wednesday.

UNDERRATED

Alex Turner's soundtrack for 'Submarine': Just about everything about this coming-of-age film from writer-director Richard Ayoade lands on target, from its sweetly absurdist depiction of first love to its big-eyed lead Craig Roberts, whose awkward energy is vaguely reminiscent of Bud Cort. But not to be overlooked are the scene-stealing songs from the Arctic Monkeys' Turner, which capture classic British pop so divinely it's remarkable they were recorded this decade.
HBO's guts with 'Game of Thrones': Surprisingly, this isn't a reference toward the gratuitous throat-rippings and bloodlettings that littered the uneven first season of the network's pricey adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novels. Instead a hat-tip is in order for going through with a pre-finale twist, which shocked everyone who hadn't already read the books by upending all expectations about the series' direction. For a brilliant moment, it really wasn't TV.

Eastwood served one term as mayor of the conservative ocean side community Carmel, Calif., from 1986-1988.
