Jolie Salt sequel

Jolie Salt sequel

Angelina Jolie is reportedly considering a return to the role of Evelyn Salt, the CIA agent who is revealed as a Russian sleeper spy, in a sequel to action thriller Salt.
Deadline says Kurt Wimmer, who wrote last year's film, looks likely to take over from Phillip Noyce on the sequel. Salt's denouement left the window open for a sequel but the Australian director turned down the chance to make it last year after completing work on a number of alternative endings for the film's Blu-ray release.
"Those three Blu-ray cuts represent just about everything I have to offer on Evelyn Salt …" he told Moviehole in December. "If there ever is a sequel, better it's directed by someone with a completely fresh take on what I believe could be a totally entertaining and complex series of stories."
The original Salt was notable for a number of reasons. Firstly, it arrived with remarkable timing for producers less than a month after the arrest of Anna Chapman and nine others accused of being real-life sleeper agents in June last year. Secondly, the main role was originally written for a male star, Tom Cruise. Jolie's instalment implied that gender was no longer a barrier for A-list actors interested in pursuing action roles.
Salt made almost $300m at the global box office and received reasonable reviews (though some complained that it was full of plot holes), so a sequel was always likely. Jolie is said to be on board pending the development of a decent scenario within which her character might return.
Wimmer will once again work on the screenplay. Salt 2 is being put together at studio Sony.
