Kate Middleton is quite clearly becoming one of our best-dressed royals, with a keen eye for recession-chic.

Once again, she has appeared in an outfit which apparently is “from her wardrobe’, i.e not bought specially for the occasion, and which she appears to have revitalised by adding a black velvet belt.
The suit is well-tailored, classic, and flattering, proving that an “old favourite” is a better-judged bet than an experiment selected purely for its newness or novelty.

Kate Middleton: A very royal style icon in pictures

Ms Middleton is marking out new territory in the chic stakes, by refusing to bow to conventional celebrity or fashion dictates which suggest women in the public eye must always be first with the latest.
Her instinctive knack for choosing what flatters her, as well as making a great photograph, was once again apparent in the tailored red two-piece, which she wore for the return visit to St Andrews University. It was a canny choice, not least because it reflected the chosen colour for gowns worn by undergraduates of the faculties of Science, Arts and Medicine.

As is increasingly apparent, the royal bride-to-be favours short skirts which show off her enviable legs, which were, on this occasion, encased in a pair of her favourite, black stretch suede boots from the American brand, Aquatalia, designed by Marvin K, from the British high street chain, Russell & Bromley.
She is also displaying a well-developed knack for leading the press on a merry dance in attempts to discover where her clothes come from. Unlike the Katherine Hooker beige coat on Thursday’s royal visit, which was immediately identified by a press officer, dozens of emails and photographs failed to elicit a “Yes! It’s ours,” from her regular mid-price designer and high street haunts.
